It’s been well over a year since I took the time to sit down and write a post recapping my weekend but these past few days are ones I want to remember and cherish for a lifetime.
Memorial Day weekend is such a special time to reflect on our freedom and to thank the brave men & women that sacrifice so much for our country. My husband was in the Navy for 4 years and I will forever be grateful for his selflessness to serve our country. I can never say thank you enough to all the military personnel who are currently serving, served in the past, or that made the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Day weekend is also the unofficial start of summer which means it’s time for beach days, backyard BBQs and boat rides with the best of friends! We kicked off our holiday weekend at the beach with 8 of our closest friends filled with sunshine, laughter and tan lines. We set up camp at our favorite spot on Isle of Palms for several hours; the husbands played an intense game of spike ball while the wives worked hard on our tans and strolled the shore line chatting.
We parted ways in the late afternoon and met back up for a backyard BBQ at our house! It’s so fun filling our new home with all of our sweet friends and creating memories and traditions that will last a lifetime. We all had an absolute blast eating, drinking, singing and playing games while laughing till our stomachs hurt. These are the nights I will forever be thankful for and I thank God every night for putting such wonderful people in our life.
Sunday started early with lots of coffee and church followed by a day on the boat. Locals say Charleston is best spent on the water and they are not wrong! We cruised all of the waterways, stopped at a few beaches and hang out spots, and jumped in and swim for a bit. We docked at the Wando River Grill and marina (the fries & gravy are a MUST) and ended the evening with a beautiful sunset cruise back to Daniel Island.
Gabe and I had great plans for a day trip on Monday but we ended up taking the day to relax and be together instead. We slept in, drank coffee on the couch and made brunch complete with chocolate chip pancakes, bacon and cheese grits. Leyla even joined in on brunch with her own mini pancakes and cheese! haha We headed downtown afterwards for a little sale shopping and strolled the quiet streets before heading home to hang with the pup and watch Netflix.
This weekend was one for the books and I can’t wait for all the new memories that are to be made this summer. God has truly blessed us with the sweetest life filled with the kindest people here in Charleston.
I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Here’s to Summer 2022
